How Do We Reach Our Goal?

Through prayer and sacrificial giving.
Sacrifice means:

  • to give something of value in order to create something of greater value
  • to give so that it will affect my lifestyle and cause me to change my plans
  • to give over and above my present giving

“Equal sacrifice, not equal gifts”

To experience what real sacrifice means, some will need to make some very large dollar commitments. For others, a few dollars will be a heavy sacrifice. Only you can decide what sacrifice means for you, as you prayerfully seek God. We can all sacrifice … we can all cause a ripple!

Principles of Giving

In considering your gift you may find it comforting to know that God has given us several principles, which we can apply. Some of them are:

The Stewardship Principle
God already owns all that we possess (Ps 24:1). We are accountable for what the Lord has given us.

The Voluntary Principle
No one is going to determine the amount of another’s gift. “Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Cor 9:7)

The Sacrificial Principle
Jesus chose as models for giving those who gave sacrificially. Further, Scripture makes clear that God measures the gift not in comparison to others, but in relation to one’s resources and what is left over after the gift. (2 Cor 8:12 and Luke 12:48)

The Commitment Principle
The Corinthian Christians were challenged not only to determine what to give, but to follow through by giving that amount faithfully.
(2 Cor 8:10-11)

The Faith Principle
We trust that God will meet all our needs (Phil 4:19). God will control our expenditures so that we will be able to give what we have committed to give.
